Start with the housing instruction
Schools publish what students may leave, what must be taken, and which donation or collection points exist for that week. Those points can close when the week ends. Read the current note and follow the locations it names. A dumpster behind a dorm is not automatically available to the public or even to every student. Ask housing if you are unsure. Search Dumpmapper by ZIP code or city only for waste the school told you to take off campus. Listings can be out of date, so confirm the public site. Campus rules and public-site rules both apply to their own locations.
Off-campus waste still needs an eligible outlet
If you live off campus, your lease and the local site rules decide the bulky pile. Ask the public site whether a student with a temporary address can enter and what proof they want. A campus ID may or may not qualify. Do not take a dorm load to a public site because the campus dumpsters were full, unless the public site says that load is accepted. Do not take a town apartment's waste onto campus. Each system can refuse the other's material. Donation drives during move-out have their own lists. Use them for goods they request, not as a place to abandon trash.
When the special week ends
Collection tents and extra boxes go away. After that, ordinary rules return, and leftover furniture in a parking lot becomes a problem for the person who left it. If you are helping someone move, decide the outlet before the last elevator slot. Keep any receipt. If a map listing mentioned a temporary campus program, correct it when the program ends so next year's students are not sent to a closed tent. Until housing publishes the new note, assume nothing is special.
Before you go
- Read the current campus move-out note before you carry anything out.
- Use donation points only for items they requested.
- Confirm a public site separately, including proof for a temporary address.
- Do not leave leftovers in lots or at campus containers the note did not assign.

Questions people ask
Does a student ID work as residency at the public site?
Ask that site. Some accept it with a local lease and some do not. Bring the proof they name. Do not assume a campus card opens a county facility.
Can parents use the student collection points?
Only if the housing note says family helpers may, and only for the student's eligible items. Parents hauling other waste use the rules for that other waste.
