About Dumpmapper

Dumpmapper is a free map of places to get rid of things: landfills, transfer stations and convenience centers, recycling centers, compost and yard waste sites, tire recyclers, and drop-offs for paint, batteries, electronics and household hazardous waste. It covers all 50 states and Washington, DC.

We built it because the answer to "where do I take this?" is usually scattered across county websites, PDFs and business listings, and a lot of what turns up in search is dumpster companies or junk haulers rather than actual drop-off sites.

How it works

The map is assembled from open public data (see data sources). A script cleans the data, drops obvious non-facilities such as scrap buyers, bottle-return machines and haulers, merges duplicates that appear in more than one source, and places each site in a county. Retail stores appear only when their public map listing says they take back specific items like batteries, paint, oil or bulbs.

What we don't do

• We don't make up hours, fees, accepted materials or resident rules. If a source doesn't list something, we say it isn't listed.
• We haven't verified listings yet. Every page carries a "last verified: not yet" badge. Verification will start with the busiest counties.
• We don't sell your information, and we don't take payment to change a listing.
