The $17 flat rate
From the Salt Lake County landfill pricing page: $17 per load for cars, SUVs, pickups with standard cargo beds (up to a 1-ton pickup), and trailers that are unloaded by hand only. That flat load can include mixed trash: garbage, concrete, asphalt, soil, sod and green waste. Special items cost extra. A trailer towed by a 1-ton or larger truck is charged by the ton. See how a trailer can change the rate class.
Per-ton rates
Trucks (other than pickups), 1-ton pickups pulling a trailer, and mechanized-unload trailers pay by weight, with a $17 minimum:
- Mixed trash: $36 per ton
- Clean broken concrete or asphalt (pieces no larger than 2 by 2 feet): $12 per ton
- Clean, dry soil or sod: $12 per ton
Loads that don't meet the clean-material rules are charged the mixed rate. Weight-based customers without a stored empty weight have to re-weigh, and cash or card customers may need to leave ID with a Salt Lake County address at the scale. Try the dump fee calculator.
Special items
- Mattresses or box springs: $18 each (residential)
- Freon-containing units: $20 each
- Tires: $4 each, maximum 12 per load, unloaded in the designated pile in the citizens' area
Solar panels and battery systems aren't accepted. The HHW facility doesn't take business waste.
Cover it or pay double
Utah Code 72-7-410 requires loads to be securely covered all the way to the landfill. Starting January 1, 2026, the county charges an additional fee equal to the disposal price on uncovered loads, so a $17 load becomes $34. A tarp pays for itself on the first trip. See tarping an open bed.
