Where to go now
Per the county's Solid Waste Disposal page, the Central Diversion & Transfer Station replaced the old Taft Hill Rd landfill. Its entrance is 2388 W Trilby Rd, Fort Collins, about two miles south of Harmony Road. It's open Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the gates close promptly at 4:30. The transfer station and the county's North Landfill opened on August 3, 2026, and the same prices apply at both. Household hazardous waste drop-off still uses the old 5887 S Taft Hill Rd entrance and is closed to the public on Wednesdays.
Checked October 2026. Hours, fees, residency rules and accepted items change, sometimes with little notice. Call the site or check its official page before you load up.
2026 flat fees
From the county's 2026 Landfill Fee Schedule:
- Car, SUV or passenger van: $20 flat
- Pickup or cargo van (no side planks, nothing above the cab): $37 flat
- Trailers and rental trucks: $13.25 per cubic yard, with a 2 cubic yard minimum. You're charged for the waste, not the empty space in the box.
- Green waste: $9 for a car, $16 for a pickup, or $13 per cubic yard in a trailer
Colorado adds a small surcharge to some loads, and the flat fees already include it. An uncovered or unsecured load pays double, although enclosed trailers and camper shells count as covered. To measure a trailer load, see estimating cubic yards from a pile.
Special waste fees
- Mattress or box spring: $40 each
- Appliances with freon: $36 each. Appliances without freon: $20 each. Microwaves count as regular trash.
- Tires: $7.50 for car and light truck tires ($13.50 on a rim). There's a limit of 9 per trip under state law.
- Shingles: $36 a cubic yard. Rubble like concrete, dirt and sod: $40 a cubic yard. Drywall: $13.25 a cubic yard.
- Electronics are priced per pound. Car bodies aren't accepted.

The bottom line
Use the new Trilby Rd entrance, tarp the load, and pull special items out to price them separately. See also covered-load rules.
Hauling it yourself? If the load won’t fit in the truck bed, a 6×10 ft open-rail utility trailer or a 4×8 ft folding trailer (it folds upright to store in a garage) can cost less than a couple of hauler trips. Tie everything down with ratchet tie-down straps; many sites charge extra for loose or uncovered loads.
