The station is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The town asks you to arrive by 3 p.m. so there's time to unload. It's closed every Wednesday and Sunday.

The town lists some holidays as full closures and others as half days, open 7 to 11 a.m. From the way the list is laid out, the full closures appear to be New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and the half days appear to be Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Good Friday, Columbus Day, Veterans Day and Juneteenth. Since November 4, 2024, household trash has to go in light-blue, town-official bags. The bag price covers disposal, replacing the old system of paying $9 per 100 pounds at the scale.

Bulky waste is still weighed
Pay-as-you-throw only applies to household trash. Bulky waste, such as demolition debris, construction materials and furniture, is still charged by weight. The town posts a fee schedule on its website; check it for current bulky-waste rates before you bring a big load.
Payment is by credit or debit card, or a local check. Cash isn't accepted.
What's free
- Single-stream recycling (paper, cardboard, glass and accepted plastics). For what counts as recyclable, the town points to the RecycleCT website.
- Food scrap drop-off for all Guilford and Madison residents. Put scraps in the special bins, either loose or in the town's green bags.
- Donation containers in the upper parking area for clothes, shoes, books and other items.
Books in good, saleable condition can also go to the Guilford Free Library, whose Friends group resells them to support library programs.
