Searching by City When ZIP Codes Overlap

Overlapping ZIP codes and similar city names produce confusing lists. Search the city that matches the waste's origin, compare it with the ZIP results, and confirm the site you mean.

Mail areas and city names solve different puzzles

A ZIP code search is a geographic net. A city search is a name net. Use both when a code covers more than one town or when two towns share a name. In Dumpmapper, search by ZIP code and by city and look at the map, not only the text list. See which pins are actually near the address where the waste was generated. Listings can be out of date, so you still confirm with the site. The double search is how you avoid calling a facility in the wrong state that happens to share a city name.

Read the full label before you tap

Open the listing and read the community name, the facility type, and any note about who may use it. If two listings look similar, compare them on the map. Call the one that matches the place you can legally haul from, and say the city and the facility name at the start of the call so the person can correct you. Ask whether waste from your street is in their area. Write down the answer next to the listing you opened. If you called the wrong one, you have not failed. You have removed a candidate.

Fix the search, not the geography

If the map keeps suggesting a far-away twin of your town, search again with the county or the fuller city name the site uses, and drop a pin mentally on the map view. Bookmark the confirmed site in your notes with the phone answer and the date. Submit a correction if a listing is attached to the wrong city. Next time, start from that note and still call, because eligibility can change even when the city name was right.

Before you go

  1. Search Dumpmapper by both the ZIP code and the city of the waste's origin.
  2. Use the map view to drop candidates that are nowhere near that address.
  3. Call using the facility's full name and ask if your street is served.
  4. Save the confirmed site in your notes with the date of the answer.

Calling a same-named city hours away because it appeared first in a text list.

Questions people ask

What if my mailing city is not the city on my street address?

Search both, then ask the site which jurisdiction matters for waste from that street. Mailing cities are not always service areas. Let staff apply the rule.

Should I search the county name?

Yes, if city and ZIP results look confused. County search is another lead. Confirm with the site, because a county name on a map is not proof you may enter.

Search Dumpmapper by ZIP code or city, then call the site before you load the truck. Hours and accepted materials change.
