Prince William County Landfill: Free for Residents

Prince William County doesn't provide curbside trash service. Residents either hire a permitted hauler or take their own waste to the county landfill, which is free for most household loads.

Location and 2026 hours

The landfill is at 14811 Dumfries Road, Manassas (703-792-5750). Per the county's Landfill Complex page, hours as of January 3, 2026 are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, except Thursday, which runs to 6 p.m. It's closed on New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and closes at 2 p.m. on Memorial Day, Labor Day and Christmas Eve. Household hazardous waste and electronics are taken Wednesday and Saturday. The fee page lists 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but another section shows different hours, so confirm before you go.

Checked October 2026. Hours, fees, residency rules and accepted items change, sometimes with little notice. Call the site or check its official page before you load up.

What residents bring free

From the Facility Users and Fees page, county residential users pay nothing for:

  • Household trash and recycling
  • Yard waste up to 2 feet across and 4 feet long. Stumps must be free of soil.
  • Bulky waste like furniture and mattresses, up to five mattresses per trip
  • Construction debris up to 2.5 cubic yards (a standard pickup bed). Larger loads aren't accepted.
  • Up to four wooden pallets
  • Appliances, scrap metal, and used oil and antifreeze (up to 15 gallons)
  • Four car or light truck tires per month
  • Household hazardous waste (up to 40 lb of solids or 15 gallons of liquid) and electronics (three units)

Boats, trailers, hot tubs and truck caps are $45 a ton.

Who qualifies, and who pays

The waste must come from your own household in the county, and proof of residency is required. Residents of Dumfries, Occoquan, Haymarket, Quantico, Manassas and Manassas Park can use the site for a fee. Contractors can bring up to a pickup load of C&D for $25, and commercial haulers pay $40 a ton for trash. Waste from outside the county isn't allowed and can lead to penalties. See bringing proof of residency.

Tips

  • Thursday evenings give you two extra hours.
  • Large remodel jobs over 2.5 cubic yards need another outlet. The county keeps a list of alternatives.
  • Bring stumps clean of soil, or they may be turned away.
