Where it is and who may enter

OC Waste & Recycling lists Prima Deshecha Landfill at 32250 Avenida La Pata, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675, phone 949-728-3040. The landfill page says commercial customers and the general public are accepted Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The county only accepts waste from Orange County residents or businesses. Proof can be a driver's license with an Orange County address, a current utility bill for the address where the waste came from, vehicle registration, a tax bill, a contract, or a valid business license. A car with out-of-county plates and a bed full of someone else's remodel is the load that gets a lecture at the gate. Plan on showing proof even if you have been waved through before.

What this site is for

The county describes Prima as a public and commercial solid-waste landfill and as one of the places with a free household hazardous waste collection center for county residents. Paint, pesticides, fertilizers, and e-waste belong at that center on its own hours, not buried in a trash load. The county also notes chemically treated wood waste and, for pre-authorized haulers, shredded green waste subject to daily limits. A fact sheet and the main landfill page have not always printed identical clocks. If you are cutting a trip close, trust the hours on oclandfills.com the day you leave, not a saved screenshot.

The fee page, and the asphalt exception

Public disposal fees are on the county's landfill fee page, which covers Prima Deshecha and the other open public sites. This article does not copy a per-ton number that the county revises on a fiscal-year schedule. Read that page for the current disposal price. One site-specific rule is worth knowing: the county says clean, broken asphalt is accepted for free at Prima Deshecha as of August 1, 2026, Monday through Saturday. That free asphalt rule is not a free pass for mixed demolition, dirt, or trash that happens to contain a few chunks of pavement. Tell the scale house the load is clean broken asphalt if that is actually what you have.

Before you go

  1. Bring proof that the waste comes from Orange County.
  2. Plan on Monday through Saturday, and recheck 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the county page.
  3. Take hazardous leftovers to the on-site collection center during its hours, not in the trash.
  4. Use the free asphalt drop only for clean, broken asphalt, and say so at the scale.

Hauling waste from outside Orange County, or mixing trash into a load you hoped would pass as free asphalt.
