Cleanup vouchers
If you have City garbage service, you get, per the voucher page:
- Up to six cleanup vouchers a year, each good for up to 2,000 pounds of household garbage and C&D debris plus 2 large items (appliances, electronics, mattresses or box springs)
- Up to two tire vouchers, each good for 8 tires, with or without rims
Each voucher covers one load in one vehicle, from the property it was issued to. The bill payer has to call 612-673-2917 during office hours (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to request one. You can't get one on site or on a Saturday. Friends, contractors or renters can use your voucher with a signed authorization form.
Over-limit and pay-per-use fees
From the city's Minneapolis drop-off items and fees page. Charges go on your utility bill, and the station doesn't take cash, checks or cards.
Over the voucher limit: $15 administrative fee. Garbage or C&D over 2,000 pounds is $41 per ton. Extra appliances, electronics or mattresses are $25 each. Extra tires are $6 (17 inches or smaller), $14 (18 to 50 inches) or $25 (over 50 inches).
Pay-per-use pass (water customers without City garbage service, one load per pass): $15 administrative fee, $40 minimum, $117.86 per ton for garbage and C&D, $122.05 per ton for C&D only, $25 per appliance or mattress, plus the same tire fees. Estimate with the dump fee calculator.

The city says a 17-foot rental truck usually fits. Not accepted: asbestos, auto parts, dirt and sod, fire-damaged items, hazardous materials, liquids, paint, railroad ties and yard waste. - AmazonCommercial heavy-duty 16-mil poly tarp: Covers the load so nothing blows out on the highway, and helps you avoid the uncovered-load fee many sites charge.
- Rhino USA 1-inch ratchet tie-down straps (4-pack): Holds the tarp and bulky items like furniture in place in a pickup bed or trailer.
- Wells Lamont 3300 leather-palm work gloves: Most drop-off sites are self-unload, so protect your hands from splinters, nails and sharp edges.
Hauling it yourself? If the load won’t fit in the truck bed, a 6×10 ft open-rail utility trailer or a 4×8 ft folding trailer (it folds upright to store in a garage) can cost less than a couple of hauler trips. Tie everything down with ratchet tie-down straps; many sites charge extra for loose or uncovered loads.
