Loading in Unload Order

Pack the bed so the first thing the site wants off is at the back. You should not have to unpack the whole truck to reach a single tire or a recycling crate.

Ask the order, then pack backward

If the site wants recycling dropped before trash, or tires handed over at a different pad, the last thing you load is the first thing you unload. Put that material at the tailgate, strapped separately from the rest. A tire buried under drywall means you either unload the drywall in the wrong place or hold up the tire lane while you dig. Call and ask the usual order for a resident with your mix. If they want one material per trip, believe them and leave the second pile at home.

Separate straps for separate stops

Use a strap or a bin for each group so you can release one group without releasing the sofa. Label the bin if the contents are not obvious. Keep a path down the middle of a trailer if you must walk in to reach a second group, and do not fill that path with loose bags. Heavy items stay low even when they unload second. You do not put concrete on top of a recycling bin just because concrete unloads later. Weight rules still win. If those two goals conflict, make two trips.

Do not rebuild the load at the gate

The scale lane is not a packing station. If you arrive and learn the order is different, ask whether you may pull aside to restack. Some sites allow a staging area and some do not. If they do not, follow their direction even if it means unloading more than you planned and reloading what they will not take. Next time the phone call happens before the straps go on. When you leave a bay, resecure whatever is still on board before you drive to the next pad.

Before you go

  1. Call and ask which material unloads first.
  2. Pack that material at the back, strapped as its own group.
  3. Keep heavy items low even if they unload later.
  4. Resecure the remaining load before you drive to the next pad.

Burying the recycling crates under a sofa and then blocking the container lane to dig.

Questions people ask

What if everything goes to one bay?

Then pack for safety and for a fast unload: heavy and low, light at the back, one strap pattern you can release quickly.

Can I leave part of the load on the truck and weigh out?

Only if the attendant said the ticket works that way. Ask. Some sites assume you empty the vehicle.
