Franklin County Sanitary Landfill (SWACO): Columbus Dump Hours and Fees

If you're hauling your own trash in the Columbus area, SWACO's Franklin County Sanitary Landfill is the public option. The rules are simple but strictly enforced.

Location and hours

The landfill is at 3851 London Groveport Road. According to the SWACO Franklin County Sanitary Landfill page, hours are Monday to Friday 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 6 a.m. to noon, with holiday changes on SWACO's 2026 schedule.

If you'll hand-unload at the working face, you must check in at the scale house 30 minutes before closing: by 4:30 p.m. on weekdays and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Checked October 2026. Hours, fees, residency rules and accepted items change, sometimes with little notice. Call the site or check its official page before you load up.

Fees

  • $39.75 per ton for direct-haul, in-district solid waste
  • $25 for an untarped load. Tarps are sold at the scale house for $10 (small) or $15 (large). To avoid the fee, you have to exit, tarp and re-enter.
  • Safety vests are required if you leave your vehicle, and the scale house sells them for $5.

Estimate your load with the dump fee calculator, and see how tare weight changes what you pay.

What's accepted

General solid waste, including furniture, carpeting and household trash. Not accepted: yard waste, liquids, or anything hazardous. For specifics, SWACO says to call 614-871-5100. Take chemicals to a household hazardous waste program. See household hazardous waste.

Tips

  • Bring your own tarp and vest to skip the add-on costs.
  • Saturday closes at noon, with an 11:30 a.m. cutoff for hand-unloaders.
  • SWACO also runs transfer stations, Jackson Pike and Morse Road. Check its site for their rules.
