Dallas Dump Guide: McCommas Bluff Landfill and City Transfer Stations

The City of Dallas runs one landfill and three transfer stations. Residents who haul their own household waste can drop it off free if they meet the vehicle and proof-of-residency rules.

Who dumps free

According to the city's Dallas Landfill and Transfer Stations page, there's no charge for Dallas residents in passenger cars, station wagons, pickups and trailers less than 15 feet long hauling their own waste from their homes. You need a current, valid driver's license, plus proof of Dallas residency: either a Dallas address on the license or a current Dallas water bill.

Loads with loose material must be covered. The city charges a $40 uncovered-load fee at McCommas Bluff. See tarping an open bed.

Checked October 2026. Hours, fees, residency rules and accepted items change, sometimes with little notice. Call the site or check its official page before you load up.

Sites and hours

  • McCommas Bluff Landfill, 5100 Youngblood Road, (214) 670-0977. Monday to Friday 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Sunday. Takes household waste, brush, furniture, appliances (refrigerants removed), tires and resident electronics.
  • Northwest (Bachman) Transfer Station, 9500 Harry Hines Blvd., (214) 670-6161. Monday to Saturday 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Open to residents and small commercial customers.
  • Northeast (Fair Oaks) Transfer Station, 7677 Fair Oaks Ave., (214) 670-6126. Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents only.
  • Southwest (Westmoreland) Transfer Station, 4610 S. Westmoreland Road, (214) 670-1927. Monday to Friday 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents only.

Note the short weekday window at Fair Oaks and Westmoreland: two hours in the morning. Saturdays are the main resident day at those two sites.

Tires and other limits

Every Dallas site lists the same tire rule: a limit of 6 tires per year from Dallas residents, no larger than 25 inches in diameter. The transfer stations also take recyclables, scrap metal and resident electronics. For chemicals, the city points residents to the Dallas County Home Chemical Collection Center. See household hazardous waste.

Commercial and non-resident rates

If you don't qualify for the free resident drop-off, you pay the commercial rate. The McCommas Bluff page lists a gate rate of $43.60 per ton, plus a $2 per ton environmental fee and a $2 per ton processing fee for loads paid individually by cash, check or card. The city's FY 2026-27 rate changes page shows an approved gate rate of $45.78 per ton for FY 2026-27. It says fee changes take effect October 1, 2026, but the landfill page still showed $43.60 when we checked, so confirm at the scale. The same rate page lists the Bachman Transfer Station commercial gate rate at $71.28 per ton.

Estimate a weight-based bill with the dump fee calculator, and see what a scale ticket lists.
