The entrance moved

The Town of Colonie tells customers that the landfill entrance and residential drop-off moved to 4 Arrowhead Lane, Cohoes, NY 12047. The driving note on the town site is specific: take Fonda Road, turn left onto Green Mountain Drive, turn left onto Arrowhead Lane, and continue to the entrance. The scale office phone on that page is (518) 783-2845. The division office phone is (518) 783-2827. A pin that still centers on 1319 Loudon Road is the older solid-waste campus, not a guarantee you are at the dumping entrance. Follow the town's turn list.

Hours, including the seasonal Saturday

The town says the landfill keeps Monday through Friday hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday is seasonal: 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from June through September, and 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. from October through May. Commercial waste drop-off on Saturday is listed as 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. even in summer. A commercial truck that arrives at 1:00 p.m. on a July Saturday is late, even if a resident car would still be inside the longer Saturday window. The town also posts holiday changes, including closures and some shortened days. Check that list the week you go instead of assuming a Monday holiday is a normal 7-to-3 day.

Residency and the fee sheet

The town says some materials can be delivered at no charge to residents when they show proof of residency. It does not say every load is free, and it publishes a separate fee schedule for environmental services. Use that schedule, or ask the scale office, before you budget a contractor load or a load from outside the town. Do not borrow a per-ton price from a different landfill that happens to share a corporate parent. Colonie's number is the one on colonie.org. Proof of residency is a driver's license or the proof the toll booth asks for, not a verbal claim that you used to live in Latham.

Before you go

  1. Follow Fonda Road to Green Mountain Drive to Arrowhead Lane.
  2. Use the shorter Saturday window if the load is commercial.
  3. Bring proof of residency if you are claiming a resident drop-off.
  4. Read the town fee schedule for anything that is not on the free-resident list.

Using the old Loudon Road pin, or staying until 2:00 p.m. on a Saturday with a commercial load.
