Charleston County Convenience Centers: Hours and Sites

Charleston County doesn't collect garbage itself. Towns and public service districts do that. The county runs the drop-off convenience centers and the Bees Ferry Road Landfill.

The eight staffed centers

From the county's Landfill & Garbage page:

  • 1344 Bees Ferry Rd., Charleston
  • 6380 Maxville Rd., Awendaw
  • 2844 Highway 174, Edisto
  • 8776 Old Jacksonboro Rd., Adams Run
  • 5303 Highway 165, Hollywood
  • 1775 River Rd., McClellanville
  • 1558 Liberia Rd., Wadmalaw
  • 1716 Signal Point Rd., James Island

The Romney Street Convenience Center is closed.

Checked October 2026. Hours, fees, residency rules and accepted items change, sometimes with little notice. Call the site or check its official page before you load up.

Hours

  • All staffed centers: Monday to Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Sunday.
  • Signal Point Road (James Island): Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Who uses them and what to bring

The county says residents without curbside garbage pickup can bring their garbage to the centers. It also says many household items, such as mattresses, carpet and furniture, can be dropped off at the eight staffed centers, though your trash provider may pick them up curbside too. Bring ID with your Charleston County address in case staff ask, and see bringing proof of residency. For a first visit, read a first trip to a convenience center.

Bees Ferry Landfill

The Bees Ferry Road Landfill at 1344 Bees Ferry Rd. (843-571-0929) is a 312-acre county site. Its office hours are Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The county lists $100 a ton for municipal solid waste and $150 a ton for tires. McGill Environment Systems takes yard waste at the Bees Ferry compost facility for $59 a ton, with a one-ton maximum. The landfill doesn't accept construction and demolition waste from private or commercial haulers. All vehicles check in at the scale house. The bottom line

Use a staffed center for household loads and call Bees Ferry before bringing anything unusual. See also landfill vs. transfer station vs. convenience center.

Hauling it yourself? If the load won’t fit in the truck bed, a 6×10 ft open-rail utility trailer or a 4×8 ft folding trailer (it folds upright to store in a garage) can cost less than a couple of hauler trips. Tie everything down with ratchet tie-down straps; many sites charge extra for loose or uncovered loads.
