The fold is a hinge, not a lock
Once a treadmill is folded for a move, the deck is a heavy slab balanced on a hinge or a strut. A bungee on the console is not a lock. Tie the deck to the uprights the way the manual shows for storage, then add a real strap around that tie so a pothole cannot bounce the deck open. The console mast is tall. It will hit a low branch or a site canopy if you leave it at full height, and it will act as a sail in an open bed. Lower it if the machine allows, or plan a route without a low door. This is a loading problem. Where the machine is accepted is a separate question you should already have answered before it is in the truck.
Where the straps have to land
Put one strap around the uprights and a fixed point on the bed, and a second strap around the folded deck so it cannot pivot. Anchor to the truck's rated tie-downs, not to a plastic bed liner or a thin rail cap. Keep the strap off the belt display and off any cord you coiled. A strap that pins the power cord against a sharp fold will cut it, and a dangling cord will catch a tire. Pad the corner where the strap turns on the console. The transport wheels should be chocked or strapped so the machine cannot roll toward the tailgate when you brake. Two people should lift. The end with the motor is the heavy end, and grabbing the handlebars only tips the mast.
Before you take the driveway
Rock the machine with your hand. If the deck shifts, add a strap. Walk around and check that nothing sticks past the sides. A handrail past the fender is an overhang even if the rest of the machine looks legal. Drive slowly over the first speed bump and stop to recheck. At the site, leave the straps on until the truck is stopped, the brake is set, and you have a place to stand. Then undo the deck strap last, so the deck cannot open while you are still climbing the bumper. Unload with two people. Do not let the wheels drop off the tailgate and hope the mast stays put.
Before you go
- Tie the folded deck the way the manual specifies, then strap that tie to the bed.
- Add a second strap on the uprights, anchored to rated tie-downs.
- Chock or strap the transport wheels so the machine cannot roll.
- Recheck the straps after the first bump, and unstrap only after the truck is parked.

Questions people ask
Can the treadmill lie flat?
Only if the maker allows that position and you have already tied the deck. A flat machine can still unfold upward into the wind.
Do the wheels count as a brake?
No. Transport wheels are for rolling the machine across a floor. Strap or chock them once the treadmill is in the bed.
