The landfill people mean

A search for Polk County Landfill can mean several states. The county operation that publishes under that name for Central Florida is Polk County Solid Waste. Its North Central Landfill is at 7425 De Castro Road, Winter Haven, FL 33880. County hours for that landfill are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The solid-waste office number published by the county is (863) 284-4319. If you are in Polk County, Iowa, Georgia, or another state, this is not your site. Match the state before you load the truck.

The resident gate is not the landfill gate

North Central Transfer Station, at 3131 K-Ville Avenue in Auburndale, is the convenience entrance on the north side of the landfill off K-Ville Road. The county says it is open only to Polk County residents and that it accepts cars, small trucks, and utility or enclosed trailers. Every other vehicle is told to use the North Central Landfill itself. Transfer-station hours on the county page are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A contractor in a dump truck who follows a resident's directions to K-Ville will be in the wrong line.

The northeast convenience pilot

On June 1, 2026 the county opened a Northeast Landfill Customer Convenience Center pilot at 4001 Bannon Island Road in Haines City, aimed at illegal dumping in northeast Polk. Posted hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. It is for residents with proof of Polk County residency. The county's own announcement sets vehicle-type fees at $10 for a car, SUV, or pickup, $18 for a utility or enclosed trailer shorter than 6 feet, and $27 for one from 6 to 16 feet, plus $5 a tire. No cash. Cards and tap-to-pay only. Commercial use, including automated dump trailers, is not allowed. Those are convenience-center fees, not a substitute for the landfill's posted tipping schedule, which you should read before a commercial haul.

Before you go

  1. Decide whether the load is a resident self-haul or a commercial truck.
  2. Send cars and small trailers with proof of residency to a convenience entrance, and other vehicles to the North Central Landfill on De Castro Road.
  3. Use the Haines City pilot only if you live in Polk County and can pay by card.
  4. Call (863) 284-4319 if you are unsure which gate matches the vehicle.

Treating every Polk County in the country as this Florida landfill, or taking a dump truck to the resident-only K-Ville entrance.

Questions people ask

Is the $10 fee the landfill's price per ton?

No. That figure is the county's announced car, SUV, and pickup price at the northeast convenience pilot. The North Central Landfill has its own posted rates. Read that sheet for a weighed commercial load.

Can a business use the Haines City convenience center?

The county announcement says commercial use is not allowed there, including automated dump trailers. Business loads belong at the landfill gate that accepts them.
