Philly Trash Drop Off: Philadelphia's Sanitation Convenience Centers

Missed trash day in Philly, or have a mattress to get rid of? The City of Philadelphia runs six sanitation convenience centers where residents can drop off trash and much more. Here's where they are and what the City allows.

The six Philadelphia trash drop-off sites

  • Port Richmond: 3901 N. Delaware Ave.
  • Strawberry Mansion: 2601 W. Glenwood Ave.
  • Southwest Philadelphia: 3033 S. 63rd St., near Passyunk Ave.
  • Northwest Philadelphia: 300 block of Domino Ln., near Umbria St.
  • Northeast Philadelphia: State Rd. and Ashburner St.
  • West Philadelphia: 5100 Grays Ave.

Rules for using the centers

  • Philadelphia residents only. You have to show proof that you live in the city.
  • How often: regular household items once a day, oversized items once a week.
  • Vehicles: personal or commercial vehicles are allowed, but the total vehicle weight has to be under 6,000 pounds.
  • No commercial loads: contractors and vehicles carrying commercial loads can't use the centers.
  • No construction debris. The City says to take it to a private facility for a fee.

What you can bring, and how much

  • Trash: up to six receptacles or 12 bags
  • Bulk items, large metal household items or appliances, including ones with refrigerants: two a day
  • Automotive tires: four a day
  • Mattresses and box springs (they don't need to be wrapped when brought to a center)
  • Electronic waste, including computers, monitors and TVs
  • Latex or water-based paint, solidified with kitty litter or newspaper
  • Recyclables, Christmas trees, and yard waste in paper bags only
  • Fluorescent bulbs and lithium, rechargeable and lead-acid batteries
