Keeping Documents Reachable in the Cab

Proof, payment, and your notes do no good under a bag. Put them in the cab where the driver can reach them without climbing into the load.

Pack a small folder before the load goes in

Use a folder or a pouch for identification, any residency proof the site named, a pass or voucher, the payment card or the cash you intend to use, and the notes from your phone call. Put it in the door pocket or a console, not in the bed. If more than one adult might speak to staff, both of you should know where it is. Search Dumpmapper by ZIP code or city during planning, and remember listings can be out of date. The folder is what you will actually use at the window. A screenshot buried in a camera roll is weaker than the document they named, unless they said a screenshot is enough.

Keep the folder clean and closed

Disposal loads are dusty and sometimes wet. A soaked utility bill can become unreadable. Close the folder. Do not set a drink on it. If you are worried about theft while you unload, keep the payment method on your person and leave only non-sensitive notes in the cab, or lock the cab if the site's flow allows you to step away with the key. Ask how long you will be out of the vehicle. Do not leave a wallet on the dash of an unlocked truck in a busy lot.

Put the ticket back in the same folder

When the window hands you a receipt, put it in the folder before you drive to the bay or before you leave the site. People lose tickets on dashboards in the sun or in a pile of gloves. The folder that entered with your proof should exit with your proof and your ticket. At home, empty it into the job file. If a document was rejected, note why on the folder so the next attempt brings what they asked for. That note is more useful than a second guess in the driveway.

Before you go

  1. Put proof, payment, and call notes in a folder in the cab.
  2. Ask the site whether a photo of a document is acceptable before you rely on one.
  3. Keep the cab locked or the payment on you while you unload.
  4. Place the ticket in the same folder before you leave the site.

Burying your identification under bags and holding the scale lane while you dig.

Questions people ask

What if the document is on my phone?

Ask the site before you depend on it. Have brightness up and the image downloaded in case the lot has poor service. Bring the paper if they said paper.

Should I bring every document I own?

No. Bring what they named, plus a second proof if they said your license address may be old. A thick stack slows the window and can confuse the answer.

Search Dumpmapper by ZIP code or city, then call the site before you load the truck. Hours and accepted materials change.
